I'm the first variety of florist, the thorn-y kind with a design studio and bride clients, but I wish I had this book when I first started . . . hell I wish I had it last week. Its perfection lies in its practicality, simplicity, and beauty. I’ll use it daily. Whether it’s to show a bride an example of a particular bloom, to check seasonality (“I’m sorry Claudia, you can’t have peonies for your January wedding, see? Right there. Darroch and Michael say so, it’s out of my control†- end scene), or to simply find inspiration. I’m not waxing poetic when I say this is my absolute favorite flower book and the only one I’ll hands-down recommend. They have masterfully created the design book for designers. . .however, the pictures are so beautiful I’d recommend it to anyone with eyes."

- I'm absolutely in love with the Flower Color Guide. I pre-ordered it and was literally counting down the days until it arrived. It's really informative and simply beautiful. It's my favorite coffee table book! Thinking of getting one for every flower lover I know.
- I LOVE this book- it's such a perfect resource for artists. I use it for color palette reference, photo-real research on flowers, plus the book is great for turning sideways and using as a reference for abstract composition (the flower stalks turn into beautiful lines for an abstract landscape). The photos are gorgeous, clear, perfectly lit, and the colors are true to life- there is no "tweaking" of saturation which is good when you are really trying to gauge the true-life color of a flower and so many resources and photo collections of flowers are really saturated.
My only issue is that the book is TINY (5x7" a little bigger than a photograph/postcard)- I though it would be quite a bit bigger, but it's kind of like this little manual. It makes the book easier to carry and store and flip through, but I love looking at details of the flowers and really seeing the colors right where the stem meets the petals (there are some gorgeous colors happening in the tiniest details of plants...) and those details are hard to see at such a small size. I'd love a larger version of this book- even though it would be cumbersome and take up a lot of shelf and easel real-estate, it would be worth it for larger images of these beautiful flowers. - Spectacular photos and even more genius concept. This book is so practical, it’s almost shocking it didn’t already exist. The layout is simple in the most pleasing way, with the colors, textures, and shape of flowers taking center stage. Bravo to these guys for a concept executed so beautifully. An immediate essential for any creative person
- The divinely matched duo that is Putnam & Putnam exceed expectations - yet again - with their premiere book "Flower Color Guide." Although I personally do not handle flowers on a consistent basis, I believe this book serves as a guide for ALL artists & creatives. It is impossible to flip through the book (flowers effortlessly styled by Michael and expertly photographed by Darroch) and not be taken away by the ethereal beauty showcased on each page. Easy to navigate and a neat freaks dream (organized by color, people!!) Whether you're planning a wedding, interested in floral design or simply searching for a creative spark - this is the book for you. I am excited to have "Flower Color Guide" on display in my home for years to come! Congrats boys!
- I work in the event industry and the Putnams' new book has been a lifesaver in our office when we're trying to identify specific seasonal florals we'd like to see in our event decor. I really wish this book existed when I was planning my wedding.
My OCD side is very pleased with how the flowers are organized by color - if you follow them on Instagram, it has also been really helpful watching the "Flower of the Day" series where they show how they incorporate each of these flowers into their arrangements.
It's the perfect size to stand out against my giant coffee table books and then toss into my bag when I need to bring it to work.
These make great birthday/Christmas/housewarming/Thank You gifts to other friends in the wedding or events industry in general, but I also recently gifted it to a friend who loves to entertain in her home and she LOVED it!
Highly, highly recommend! - I work in the creative visual field in NYC. From time to time I would have to do my own arrangements for clients and would always forget the names of the type of flowers needed.
